At Our Last Meeting...

Jeff Quesenberry presented his 1/4 scale Lavochkin La 7 built from RCM plans designed by Dave Andersen, retracts by Eric Malkerson, canopy and static prop blades by Wayne Siewert (Aerotech), cowl and static spinner by Jeff Micko.  (About as close to a group project as we get.) Shindin struts, Century Jet tail wheel salvaged from old Yak-3.  “Went together pretty easy.”  Jeff modified the wing from two-piece plug-in to one-piece.   FliteMetal exhaust plates, Krylon rattle can paint over Rustoleum primer.  Weathering per Ivan the Terrible winter color scheme by airbrush and wiping charcoal with thinner.  Markings are multicolor vinyls from Godfrey Siles sign shop in Farmington for only $60.  Yes—multicolor vinyl decals are now available!  Brisson 4.2 w/ Tatone 2-piece muffler.  30 lbs.  Will fly with Mosquito spinner.  Additional construction photos at www.rcscalebuilder.com under http://www.rcscalebuilder.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=3541&PN=1&TPN=1. within the Forums. You must register to get into the forums but its free!

Eric Malkerson passed around his latest product—beautifully anodized retracts for Aerotec and Sierra Precision.  3 sizes in 90, 85, 72 and 82 degrees.  These can be seen at www.rcmfg.com

Bill Jennings, President of TCRC, asked for volunteers to present kit-building topics on Saturday mornings.  These will be 2-3 hour sessions. If interested, please contact Bill at  wbjennings@integra.net or 952-440-6300

John Baligrodzky played a video of his original design, Space-ship one flight, on a laptop.  Spoiler causes flat straight down descent per full scale.

Bruce Anthony displayed nose art photos he took while in the Air Force in Europe in 1944. He told an interesting story about ack-ack in a church steeple.

Cal Branton showed a 1/4 scale Corsair built by Gregorson from a Konoshin now Model Master kit. “Not a great kit.” 50 lbs, 102” span.  “Surprisingly agile” and “flies light” despite the weight.  BME 102 is “plenty of power.” Heavy Glennis wheels affect the balance when retracted so Cal measured the CG with one wheel up and one wheel down.   Avoided switches by using removable charge jacks that turn on the battery when removed.  Warning: use jacks designed for RC, not Radio Shack stuff.  Latex paint is soft and delicate, smudges easily.  Will add a clear coat.  3 Flights—flies “really really well.”  Going to Denver warbird rally next summer.

Cal also told of Dave Wicklund’s fire.  Be careful charging LiPoly batteries.
